Two goals in the first half and another in the second, combined with a number of chances squandered, saw heavy favourites North Village successfully negotiate this FA Cup second round clash at Police Field yesterday. Jamaul Boyles netted twice and Clay Smith once.

However, while deserved winners, Village didn't have everything their own way against spirited First Division opponents, especially in the early stages.

Prospect's surge lasted only for the first 12 minutes before Village gained their composure and took control.

After just four minutes Prospect winger Carlos Lopes crossed from the right and the sliding John Richmond, attempting to shrug off a challenge, hurried his shot inches over from 12 yards out.

Two minutes later the Village defence was under siege again and they had to scramble away a threatening cross by Richmond who followed up four minutes later by slamming a Vic Ball cross over the top from 16 yards.

Village slowly came into the game and after left winger Vernon Tankard fired a shot over on 16 minutes - their first threat of the game - they found their rhythm.

Crafty midfielder Boyles delivered the best goal of the game after 21 minutes, fiercely striking home an 18-yard shot after Randy Spence had started a move down the left flank. Two minutes later Prospect centre-back Steve Gair was sloppy, giving away the ball and allowing Kevin Jennings to cross for Clay Smith to score from close in.

Prospect played with more purpose when play re-started but Village remained in charge although not as dominant with Kentoine Jennings forced to switch from midfield to centre-back when Kimandi Binns was substituted because of an injury.

After Jawan Thomas hit the post after 71 minutes, Boyles made it 3-0 when he finished off a move initiated by Kevin Jennings.

Village had more chances to score with Michael Hansey, Kevin Jennings, Clay Smith, Tarik Jennings and Tankard all failing to find the target.
