instead spend a further six months behind bars.

Fredericka Wright-Fox, 29, pleaded guilty to possession of 1.06 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, including a home-made crack pipe, silver spoon and wire mesh, when she appeared before Acting Senior Magistrate Edward King on Friday.

She was arrested by Police on Union Street in December of last year and they found the drugs equipment in a jacket she was carrying and the marijuana on her body.

The pipe and wire mesh tested positive for traces of cocaine, while the spoon was discovered to hold traces of diamorphine (heroin).

The teary-eyed defendant told the court that the jacket did not belong to her and that she was given it as one of her friends entered a Police car. She did admit that the marijuana was hers.

Wright-Fox acknowledged her drug problem and claimed that she was not getting proper treatment for it in prison.

"I have signed up at Fairhaven for when I get out,'' she said., "I want to change my life, I want a chance at life.'' Mr. King told Wright-Fox that her record of five similar convictions in the past three years made it clear that she had an addiction problem.

And he said that he could only recommend that she be given treatment for her problems while in prison.

In a separate matter, Wright-Fox was ordered to serve ten and 14- day concurrent sentences for failing to stop at a stop sign and driving without a driver's licence on March 11.

SHOPLIFTER FINED FOR QUICK PACK JOB CTS Shoplifter fined for quick pack job A 37-year-old man who walked out of the Hamilton MarketPlace with shoplifted foodstuffs and batteries in his knapsack has been ordered to pay a $250 fine.

Douglas Ellis, of Tamarind Walk, Southampton, tried to shoplift an additional $64 of merchandise after running up a $180 bill while shopping at the store on June 1.

MarketPlace staff told Police that the defendant entered the store with an empty knapsack and left with a full one. After paying for some items, he descended to the store's parking lot, where staff followed him and asked him to open his bag.

When they found the merchandise inside, Ellis told them he had bought the contents of the bag earlier that day. When he was unable to produce a receipt for the goods, the store searched its cash registers for a record of the purchases, but was unsuccessful.

In sentencing, Ellis said he would like to apologise to the court and that such an incident would never happen again.

ATLANTA MAN BUSTED AT AIRPORT CTS Atlanta man busted at Airport A visitor from Atlanta was fined $750 for cannabis possession Friday by Acting Senior Magistrate Edward King.

William Scott Daniel arrived at the Bermuda International Airport on June 18 and had his bags searched by Customs officers who noticed he was nervous.

They pulled him aside for a body search and the 36-year-old told them he had "stuff in his underpants'' before producing a plastic bag.

The bag contained four home-made cigarettes and plant-like material, which was later found to be 4.24 grams of marijuana.

In apologising to the court, Daniel said: "I had come to Bermuda for a vacation with my family.

"I made a very poor judgment and I ask the court for leniency. I've never had any issues with the Police in either Bermuda or the US.''
