‘Charismatic and genuine’
November 18, 2012Dear SirI had the opportunity to meet Kenneth Bascome many years ago when my family made our annual visit to St George’s. Ken managed Tobacco Bay Beach at the time, and my son and daughter loved to visit there because he seemed to have a special connection to children, and made it a day of great fun. On two occasions, he even took my son over to play soccer with one of the teams he coached at the time. My son, now 30, still has the St George’s Colts hat Ken was kind enough to give him. My daughter made her own trip to St George’s last month, and her first stop was to Tobacco Bay. Even back then, Ken had a great passion for the people and town of St George's. Everybody knew him, and he was like the local celebrity to us. We enjoyed our friendship with him, and his lovely wife. We made a point to see him on every trip.We now move many years forward, and make our first trip to Bermuda since 1997. We get to St George’s, and discover Ken is the Mayor! We immediately reached out to people we knew on the Island to let him know we were in town and would love to see him. With his new duties, and his campaign for Parliament, we thought there would be no time in his schedule to see us. I forgot how Ken has a way of getting everything done. Imagine our surprise when we got a knock at our door one morning, and there was the Mayor of St George's saying hello! After finishing one meeting, and on his way to another, he found time to see us in between. He is as charismatic and genuine as we always knew him to be. He obviously has never lost his passion for the people and town of St George's, and with this new opportunity, can help the whole Island. We have a great respect for Mayor Bascome, and truly believe he can make a positive difference for all of you if he wins the seat in Parliament. We may have a little personal bias, but he has our “out of town” votes. We hope he has yours.GREG AND JANET BENTZMargate, NJ, USA
