Big Snipes releases second album
"If you're listening to this recording, it means that you are about to experience the unadulterated, uncompromising music ministry of Big Snipes. Please listen to the following instructions ..."
And so opens "The Next Level", the first album of Wesley Hall, aka Big Snipes, a local Gospel and R&B music artist, which was released in January 2007. The exhilirating introduction to what was to become a well-received album, also featuring guest artists including Septimus, Troy Anthony and Firekid, only raises the excitement level as the public awaits Big Snipes' sophomore album, "Buffet Style" next month.
Born into a strong, musical family, Wesley Hall is now the minister of music at Glory Temple, New Testament Church of God in St. David's, as well as working as a senior financial service representative for Capital G. He studied piano, violin, drums and organ growing up, and performed with several groups, including jazz group "Nu Reality" and vocal group "Praiz".
While it can be challenging at times, his "two-job" life, merging work with ministry, is a blessing, he claims.
"The good thing is, I love both!"
He is "honoured" that his employers, who are sponsors of the new album, have wholeheartedly supported his music ministry. Other sponsors include BAC, Barritts, Trinity Sound Group, Gina Spence Productions in Christ and the Ministry of Culture and Social Rehabilitation.
The first single from the album, "Clean Heart", featuring Riddy (his brother, Dennis Hall) was released this past July and is already receiving a quite a bit of air time on local radio stations. It also won Best Collaboration and Best Gospel Song at the Underground Music Awards this past July.
A second single, a hip-hop version of the Sunday school classic, "Happy & You Know It", featuring Dae (Mashundae Pearman), was released at the end of August and is also gaining popularity on the radio.
" 'Buffet Style' is a snapshot of my life over the last year," Mr. Hall said. "In the summer of 2009, I knew it was time to record. My wife and I sat down and prayed about it ... and developed a plan."
The unique album title is based on Matthew 5:6, which says, "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled".
"If you were to listen to my (last) project, I talked a lot about my testimony. (This time) it's about getting into the presence of God."
His favourite song on the album?
"It's a toss up – (I guess) my all-time favourite is 'Speak Lord', because I wrote that song in church. It has a great connection with my St. David's church family ... When my team and family heard it. .. well, it's just real."
Other favourites include "Run to You", which Big Snipes describes as a "love song to God", and "All My Life", which he peforms with his wife, Samantha Matthew Hall.
Mr. Hall hopes his new album will help others to choose God and choose life.
"Just remain positive in everything you do ... and remain humble, no matter how or where God takes me."
He claims Philippians 4:13 for himself, "I can do everything through him who gives me strength."
Buffet Style was launched at an intimate party held at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute this past week, and will be released on November 6 with a celebration concert at Heritage Worship Centre, beginning at 7.30 p.m.
In addition to Big Snipes, several local artistic talents will be performing, including the Mt. Zion Men's Choir.
