The triathlon racing season ramps up this Sunday when the Bermuda Triathlon Association (BTA) hosts the Catlin National Olympic Distance Triathlon Championships at Clearwater Beach, St David’s.Athletes can expect some changes. It is a new course and is the one that will be used this summer for the triathlon event in the NatWest Island Games, which are being held in Bermuda from July 15 to 19.This year’s race will also double as a qualifier for local athletes hoping to be considered for team selection to represent Bermuda at the NatWest Island Games, or at the Age Group World Championships being held in London in September.The Olympic distance event, which has Catlin as its title sponsor for the first time, will see competitors race through three disciplines starting with a 1,500 metres swim, followed by a 40K bike ride and finishing with a 10K run.Last year’s respective men’s and women’s champions, Jonathan Herring and Laurie Orchard, are expected to defend their titles.There will also be a series of junior races for athletes between the ages of seven and 15.The triathlon starts at 8am.
