Pool a waste of money
April 5, 2011Dear Sir,When we make any inquiries about “certain projects” that Government has or is going ahead with, the answers given appear perplexing, especially those been given to the public whenever the topic of the National Stadium comes to the forefront. I recall vividly being a young fellow attending The Bermuda Technical Institute which sat on top of Friswell’s Hill/Roberts Avenue, Devonshire overlooking the Frog Lane field on one side and the then National Stadium on the opposite side of this first class school …Yet, lo and behold the Govt (then UBP) decided to do away with this school and to develop a Sports arena that was to become the most grandiose of all other arenas that were here on the Island…and yes sir’ie, “we had sapped it up like a dry sponge sucks up water”. Moving the clock forward. It is now 2011 (going on 50 years later) and we still don’t see this monstrous “Sports Centre” anywhere near completion all we are seeing is another big hole that monies is being literally poured into …Doesn’t the Government of the day see what is so evident that even the blind can see it? Today there are far too many families that are in dire need of assistance yet the Govt has a “priority” and that my fellow countrymen is to build a swimmming pool! There are numerous projects that sit on “the back burner” that should have come up first. With so much debt, how in the world can anyone justify throwing dollars into the air like it’s never going to run out …What happen to common sense? I’ll tell you: “Common sense isn’t any longer too common.”RAYMOND RAYSt. Georg
