Myra gets CURE post

MYRA Virgil has taken over as the new executive officer of the Commission For Unity & Racial Equality (CURE). She replaces David Northcott who left in June.

A Bermudian, Mrs. Virgil is a social worker by profession.

Trained and educated in Canada, she holds a bachelor of arts degree in sociology, and bachelor of arts and master's degrees in social work.

"Mrs. Virgil has extensive experience in the fields of child protection and working with inner-city youth, some of whom were native to Canada, and others who emigrated from various Caribbean countries, China, the Philippines and Bangladesh," a Government spokesperson said in making the announcement.

In her role as a social worker in Canada, Mrs. Virgil formed part of an intensive family treatment services team which served children of multiple racial and ethnic groups, and also served as a multiracial and multicultural adviser.

Mrs. Virgil took up her post on October 20.
