Lawyer Polly Tatum breaks barrier in US
The many relatives and friends in Bermuda of Attorney Polly Tatum undoubtedly are happy with news of the distinction that’s her’s in becoming the 123rd President Elect of the Worcester County Bar Association of Worcester, Massachusetts.Polly is the granddaughter of Dr. Dorothy Matthews-Paynter, the doyenne of Bermuda’s practising hairdressers and beauticians.She said Polly is now the third female and first African American to preside over the WCBA.Attorney Tatum told her grandmother that she is humbled with the opportunity to join the ranks of “the highly distinguished, respected and revered lawyers who have preceded her as president of that august body”.A news release on her election cites how she has been a fervent member of the WCBA since being admitted to the bar in January 1995.Her commitment being evident through having been as an executive committee member and a four-year-term as co-chair of the association’s Alternative Dispute Resolution.Born in Ayer, Massachusetts, Polly obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree from New Hampshire College; her JD from Massachusetts Law School and LLM in Estate Planning and Elder Law from Western New England College School of Law.She counts among her close Bermuda friends former Attorney General and current Economy Minister Senator Kim Wilson.
