Island plays host to plenty of visitors

Car shipment: the car ship <I>Dresden</I> called in Hamilton on Monday.

It has been a busy week in the shipping channel with some of the final deliveries coming into the Island before Christmas.

The Dresden vehicle transporter arrived on Monday morning bringing 144 vehicles and 18 cases of motor parts with her. She left later the same day.

The Iver Express is due to arrive today to discharge fuel to Esso docks at Ferry Reach.

And the Atlantic Guardian cable ship arrived in Dockyard yesterday morning for some minor repairs and a quick crew change before sailing out this afternoon.

Among the regular visitors is the Somers Isles, which is due in today with 87 dry containers and six refrigerated containers. Among its haul are two boats and a construction backhoe for a building firm. The Somers Isles is set to stay in Bermuda for the Christmas holidays.

The Bermuda Islander is due in tomorrow, with 118 dry containers and 27 refrigerated containers, and will sail back out on Friday.

And the Oleander arrived from New Jersey on Sunday with 118 dry containers and 43 refrigerated containers. Also on board were 16 cars, an excavator and two flatbed trucks. She sailed out of the Island yesterday.

A US submarine was also off the coast of Bermuda last Friday for a crew transfer. Where the sub came from and where she was going to is classified information.
