Royal Navy ships arrive at Malabar

The HMS Active is returning to the United Kingdom after six months duty in the Caribbean. While there, the warship supported British Forces stationed in Belize and helped the US Coast Guard and Navy combat the narcotics trade.

The HMS Active is returning to the United Kingdom after six months duty in the Caribbean. While there, the warship supported British Forces stationed in Belize and helped the US Coast Guard and Navy combat the narcotics trade.

Capt. Chris Beagley of the Royal Navy is the ship's commanding officer. HMS Active will leave Bermuda on Monday for the United Kingdom.

Also arriving is the HMS Lancaster , the first of the Duke class frigates to carry out duties in the Caribbean.

Commander Mark Sloan is in charge of the warship which arrives in Dockyard tomorrow from the United Kingdom. She leaves on Monday and will relieve HMS Active on Caribbean duty.

She will also take over the escort for the Royal Yacht Britannia which left Bermuda on Monday this week for the Caribbean where the Queen will board her during island visits.

An oil tanker and support ship, RFA Oakleaf , under the command of Capt. John Roberts, also arrives at Dockyard tomorrow and leaves on Monday for the Caribbean.

In other shipping news, Meyer agencies report that the Somers Isles arrived on Sunday from Florida with 83 dry containers, seven refrigerated containers, two boats, four fibreglass tanks, 24 bundles of lumber, 13 bundles of steel and a large antenna. She sailed the next morning at daybreak.

Meyer Agencies also reported that the Bermuda Islander arrived on Tuesday from Salem, New Jersey with 68 dry containers, eight refrigerated containers and two trailers. She sailed the same day.

The longline fishing vessel, Steven B , came into Penno's Wharf on Saturday with a shipment of fish. She is expected to sail today.

A new long line vessel, Seven Girls , is expected to arrive on tomorrow from Nova Scotia. On Monday, the Oleander arrived with 120 dry containers, 29 refrigerated containers, a 31-foot boat, two cars and two trailers of steel.

She sailed on Tuesday, Container Ship Management reported.

John S. Darrell reported that the Panama-registered cement ship, the Espartana , will arrive tomorrow morning from Pertigalete, Venezuela carrying 5,300 metric tons of Portland cement. The 340-foot ship is expected to leave the next day.
