From bricks to clicks

Establishing a strong web presence for a new business can feel intimidating for some. Even driving traffic to an existing site and turning those visitors into customers can be daunting.The Bermuda Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) with the support of the Department of Ecommerce is offering a free e-business workshop to show small business owners the ropes of website development and e-marketing.Beginning on May 1, the ten-session workshop will be facilitated by Anthony Ricketts, who is trained graphic designer and web developer who owns a boutique marketing agency in Jamaica. Mr Ricketts, who is also a Bermuda Police officer, will lead attendees through the process of understanding e-business and cover the basics of domain name selection and registration, e-marketing, e-payments, and finally an e-business and website development plan.Seasoned web development specialists from Aardvark Communications, and Bermuda internet Marketing will be making guest presentations. Representatives from, The Bank of N.T. Butterfield & Son Ltd. will also be present to talk about e-payments.The classes are geared to small business owners, community organisations and non-profits, entrepreneurs, and any individuals interested in establishing their web presence.The workshop will be held over a 4 week period from May 1 -22 from 6:00pm 8:00pm. The course material will be broken down into 10 sessions covering a range of topics including e-business from business and technical perspectives in order to illustrate how it works and how business processes are transformed. At the end of the workshop, the goal is to have each participant create their very own website.There is a $20 registration fee, which will be refunded at the door.
