It was very much a family affair at the Spanish Point Boat Club on Monday night when prizes were handed out for the annual Royal Gazette Wahoo Tournament.Of the six awards presented, five went to the Mello clan.It was the first time in the event’s long history that all but one trophy was given to members of the same family, all of whom were fishing from the same boat, Tantrum.Kevin Mello was the overall winner with his 57.6-lb wahoo, the best of those weighed in at Dockyard on tournament day, September 16.But brother Brian gave him a close fight, bringing his 55.2 pounder to the dock to claim the 30-lb test line prize.Brian’s son, Tyler, collected the 20-lb test award for his 47.6-lb fish and daughter Alyssa was the junior winner after hooking a 45.5 pounder.Kirk Dill, on the boat Last Chance, prevented a clean sweep as he took the 12-lb test line prize with his 37.2-lb wahoo. For good measure, the Mellos picked up the High Point Boat Award. The tournament is sponsored by The Royal Gazette, Fly Bridge Tackle, Hand Arnold and BGA.(Photos by Akil Simmons)
