Marsh’s holiday gifts help youngsters to explore talents
Big-hearted staff at a reinsurance firm donated 88 decorative shoeboxes packed with school supplies, clothing and other accessories to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda.
Marsh and Guy Carpenter announced the giveaway, worth $8,800, to the mentoring programme for young people who often come from single-parent homes.
Patrina O’Connor-Paynter, the managing director of BBBS of Bermuda, said the gifts, which were tailored to each recipient, were looked forward to every year.
She added: “We are grateful for their ongoing support and that they were still able to make it happen during this pandemic.
“Most of the gifts help our young people to explore their passions and talents, which is critically important.”
Donations were led by Jahan Cedenio, co-chairman of Marsh’s social impact committee, with Marsh colleague Samantha Astwood.
Mr Cedenio said: “This annual initiative seeks to enhance the day for children in our community and is a great way for our colleagues to give back and make a difference.”
Jenni Rowntree Estis, the head of operations and senior vice president of broking at Guy Carpenter, said it was “good for the kids to see persons in the corporate world connecting with them on such a personal level”.
She added: “We want the kids to see that we care about them and that we are approachable around career opportunities ultimately.”
