Updated: Changes to garbage collection

Changes have been made to the timetable for garbage collection after Hurricane Paulette, the Government said this morning.

The Ministry of Public Works said that trash would be collected as usual today and tomorrow.

But people who would have had their garbage collected on Monday and Tuesday of this week should put it out for collection on Saturday.

The Government issued a second release on the subject today to clarify information released yesterday. It stressed the changes related to trash that was not collected this week, not next week as originally stated.

The Marsh Folly compost centre will open from 7.30am to 7pm until Saturday.

The airport dump will open at 7.30am and close at 4pm each day until Friday and at noon on Saturday.

The Tynes Bay public drop-off will run its normal hours from 7am to 7pm daily, including Sunday.

Its commercial weighbridge will open from 7.30am to 4pm until Friday and from 7.30am to 2pm on Saturday.

A spokesman added: “Should the need arise, the public will be advised of any further adjustments to the garbage collection and waste disposal facilities schedules.”
