‘My child is not a part of any gang’

@$:Glen Fox admitted attacking a youngster with a cricket bat. He is due to be sentenced at Magistrates’ Court next month.

The father of a middle school student beaten with a cricket bat has insisted his son wasn’t a “gang banger” as claimed by his attacker. The St David's resident, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said: "I can assure the public and whoever else is concerned that I am not a parent in denial and my child is not a part of any gang or gang-affiliated."He hasn't been and will not be, and I can assure you of that."Glen Fox admitted last week that he’d caused actual bodily harm to the student and was in possession of a weapon, specifically a cricket bat, on June 2. He is dur to be sentenced next month.Magistrates’ Court heard that the 46-year-old approached the boy on a playground near the Gulf Stream housing facility in St David’s around 4.50pm. He repeatedly struck the teen with a bat, causing abrasions and contusions. The Royal Gazette understands that CCTV footage of the incident shows the victim was approached by Fox as he played cricket with several children, some as young as five.Words were exchanged, after which Fox took the cricket bat from the teenager and began striking him with it.He continued to hit the student with the bat after he was knocked to the ground. The attack continued for more than a minute-and-a-half before a member of the public took the cricket bat away from Fox.The victim's father said he was told the incident began after Fox accused the teen of taking his bicycle without permission. He said Fox never approached him about any issues with his son. He also said he understands that Fox was banned from the Gulf Stream property due to past incidents."My son didn't take his bike, but he accused my son and this is what transpired," the man said. "I can assure you that my son was in his room all afternoon."My son had just left the room to play with the kids. Fox came onto the property and said 'I'm going to deal with this now', and proceeded to attack my son."The man later took his son to Lamb Foggo Urgent Care Centre for treatment."The doctors took X-rays and thoroughly checked him out, but to make a long story short he's fine," the father said. "He's a little shaken up, but he is fine. He's back in school and he's doing well."He said he was stunned by the claims made by Fox in Magistrates' Court. The allegations that his son was involved in gang activity were merely an attempt by Fox to excuse his actions, the man said."Glen said [my son] was a problem to the community. That is a straight-out lie," the father said."Someone who has been hung out to dry will say or do anything to make themselves look good or justify what they have done. There's no justification in this."I praise the judge who presided over the case. I appreciate him stating that this is no way to correct any child. He was under age, and it was completely uncalled for."I think it is a terrible situation that has happened. As I see it, any person who commits such an awful crime will say or do anything to take the focus point off of themselves."
