Gombeys dance on New Year’s Day with Covid-19 restrictions

The beat went on as Bermuda’s Gombeys took to the streets yesterday for their traditional new year’s performance – but with Covid-19 restrictions observed.
Spectators watched from a distance this year, in line with a Covid-19 requirements, with people in some neighbourhoods cheering from their balconies.
Troupes visited several areas across the island – although they could not March between sites because of rules agreed between the troupes and the Government.
Gombey troupes are a welcomed sight on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, as well as at other events throughout the year.
But health precautions introduced in a bid to curb the spread of the coronavirus limited performances for most of 2020.
