Philadelphia Financial appoints Hom as CFO
Philadelphia Financial Group — which in August set up two subsidiaries in Bermuda — yesterday announced the appointment of James Hom as chief financial officer to help guide the firm’s continued US and international growth.The Philadelphia-based provider of life insurance products for high net worth individuals has set up the Bermuda entities to target non-US business.Mr Hom is a financial executive with more than 30 years of experience and will lead all financial affairs and enhance the organisation’s strategic capabilities in this expanded position, the firm said in a statement.“Jim’s demonstrated financial leadership at several large corporations and his hands-on business experience will extend our team’s depth of expertise as we scale Philadelphia Financial for the next phase of growth,” said John Hillman, CEO.“Bringing an executive of this calibre on board enables us to develop and calibrate long-range capabilities designed for organic expansion and further acquisitions,” he added.Mr Hom joins Philadelphia Financial from Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in New York where he served as CFO of the international group since 2007, responsible for all financial management activities in over 50 countries.He had previously held senior level executive positions at Aon Corp, Cigna Corp and The Travelers Insurance Group.Hom served for 10 years in Pricewaterhouse Coopers’ insurance industry consulting practice after beginning his career with The Hartford Insurance Group.
