all-encompassing Career Expo at CedarBridge Academy on Tuesday, April 7.

The Expo will be open to the public at no charge. Its objective is to provide students with information, advice and ideas on career matters. Exhibitions, seminars and one-to-one sessions with members of the local work force will demonstrate the choices available to young Bermudians in the career field and keep them up to date on what is expected in the workplace.

The Expo's wide-ranging goal will be to address career-related issues such as trends in the employment picture in Bermuda marketplace and the skills and education required.

Premier Pamela Gordon and a host of dignitaries from the private and public sectors will be on hand for the formal opening at 1 p.m. The Expo will run from noon until 7 p.m. and is being coordinated by the Business Education Partnership and staged by members of Meeting Professionals International, on a volunteer basis.

"Our target is to attract every student in Bermuda who is wondering about which career to pursue, thinking about a particular career, or looking for more information on a chosen career path,'' said Ken Spurling, Co-Chairman of the Business Education Partnership.

"We'd like parents to come to the Expo. We invite business people to come along and participate. In fact, everyone in Bermuda should try to find a little time in their day to drop in. It's going to be a special and an important event.'' Everyone involved with the Expo is volunteering their time, and a number of corporate sponsors will meet the costs. Sponsors include such local businesses as The Bank Of Bermuda, Conyers Dill & Pearman, The Argus Group, Appleby Spurling & Kempe, Chameleon Digital Press and Aardvark. Many others have donated door prizes and other resources to help make this event a success.

Along with booth presentations, a series of seminars will be held at the Expo.

Half-hour presentations will be given on career-related topics such as interview techniques, training and apprenticeship programmes, and the need to strike a balance in one's life.

Employees from various local industries will attend to talk one-on-one with any student who has questions. A multi-media screening room will show material prepared by such organisations as the Bermuda International Business Association and the Visitor Industry Partnership.

Local musicians and entertainers will give brief performances in the purpose-designed quadrangle at CedarBridge Academy.

A supervised playroom, for children aged two to seven, will enable parents to leave younger children in a suitable environment while they and their older children visit the Expo itself.

"All sectors of the community have really come together in preparation for the Career Expo,'' said Janette Musson, Education Officer and BEP co-chairman.

"The Army Cadets will be monitoring the parking for us. The Department of Health will provide first aid services from the school's Health Room.

"The Parish Constables will also assist on the day. Everyone is pulling together to make this Career Expo a meaningful experience for all who attend.'' Starla Williams, of MPI, said: "We think a better informed student makes more sensible career choices, and urge anyone who is at that age when a choice of career is coming up to visit to the Expo. We're expecting it to be a fun day out.''
