Wine consultancy established
hotels, restaurants, private clients and any other businesses which need help identifying a nice bouquet and a full body.
Wine Consultants Ltd., which is based on Reid Street is owned by Mr. James Watlington, his wife, Pauline; and Mr. Robin Blackburne.
It will be run by Mr. Blackburne, a qualified Master of Wine, who has spent a lifetime in the business.
Mr. Blackburne said: "Wine Consultants Ltd. has been established to fulfil what is perceived to be a very real need for sound and impartial wine advice.'' For private clients, the company expects to give advice on the establishment of private wine cellars, the choice of wines at various price levels and recommendations on storage conditions.
Mr. Blackburne's service will include liaising with architects who are working on renovations or new houses with plans to include wine cellars.
He will also do valuations for insurance and other purposes, including helping bankers and lawyers determine the value of wines for probate.
Mr. Blackburne said: "Part of my duties will also include assisting private wine collectors to collate their stocks and advise them which wines should be drunk and which held for future drinking.'' For the hospitality industry, Mr. Blackburne expects to run, probably during the off season, a series of educational seminars and tastings for wine waiters, Maitre d's and others in the business.
Advice will be offered to hotels and restaurants on the compiling of wine lists and the selection and buying of wines.
Mr. Blackburne helped found the Bristol Wine Cellar in 1962 and was president of the firm before leaving 25 years later to set up his own international consultancy practice.
