500 students join litter pick
Hundreds of children in Government after-school programmes will spend tomorrow afternoon picking up litter across the island.
The effort is part of an initiative started three years ago by Government and Keep Bermuda Beautiful (KBB), to raise youngsters' environmental awareness and reduce garbage.
It is expected that close to 500 students from 11 programmes, and the three community centres run by the Ministry of Environment and Sport and the Department of Youth, Sport and Recreation, will participate.
"This is a remarkable initiative and we are delighted that the department is taking this on," said KBB executive director Rich Lathan.
"This is the third year the department has taken this project in a bid to raise environmental awareness among the young people in the programme. This will be the largest single group KBB has worked with in a number of years."
Motorists are asked to take extra precaution when travelling in the following areas between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. tomorrow: Shelly Bay Park, John Smith's Bay, Admiralty House, Astwood Park, Pontoon's Park, Parson's Road Playground and the railway trails near Heron Bay School, Somerset Bridge and Port Royal Gas Station.
