A Southampton man was charged in Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday with possessing a semi-automatic pistol loaded with three rounds of 9mm ammunition.Appearing in custody, Gladstone Butterfield was charged with one count of possessing a firearm and one count of possessing ammunition.Wearing jeans and a striped shirt, he remained silent throughout proceedings.He was not required to enter a plea as the charges against him are indictable only and must be heard by the Supreme Court.Mr Butterfield was arrested in the early hours on Sunday near the Fairmont Southampton Princess hotel.Following bail arguments, Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner remanded Mr Butterfield until August 10, when he is expected to return to court for a mention.
