Push yourself to find your true strength
Things I’ve learnt in 2020
People will not treat you like you treat them.
Do you ever feel like you treat people better than they treat you? Sometimes you are in a situation where you give a person your absolute best. You’re there when they need you, kind even when they do not deserve it and it hurts when they do not treat you the same way back.
Never change the person you are. You possess a special kind of love and compassion some people do not even have the ability to possess.
There will always be someone trying to knock you down or take advantage of your kindness. Do not be mad or upset at yourself for the kindness you shared. Whoever you meet, no matter who they are, show them the compassion you have in life and the love and greatness you have to give. Just do not expect anything in return from them. Nobody can ever be you. Not everyone has a big heart or your smile. Just keep being kind even though you won’t receive the same treatment as you have shown.
Let go of guilt.
We are definitely in more intense contact with people now. We use a variety of ways to keep in contact through the phone, e-mail, texts, FaceTime, Zoom, or other platforms. Some times it feels like a full time job. There are so many people we are concerned about in different parts of the world. Some of us are beginning to feel exhausted by the constant pandemic talk. Even though we all feel like we should be reaching out, sometimes I honestly feel like retreating. No talking. No communicating. Sometimes that can bring on feelings of guilt because, we keep hearing how important it is to stay in touch with people. If you are feeling guilty about wanting to disconnect, let your guilt go. Respect your needs. Take a break, focus on things that lift you up and reach out a little less frequently.
Don’t Beat Yourself Up
Do you find that you constantly beat yourself up? You ate too much over the holidays or you weren’t as productive as you’d have liked while working from home and you beat yourself up for it. Beating yourself up does absolutely nothing for you. Making a conscious effort to stop putting yourself down will really help with your mood throughout the day. To do that, you need to be aware of all the mean comments that you tell yourself. Compliment yourself on the things you do well and acknowledge all of your achievements, no matter how small. Make a daily list of five things you did well or that you are proud of. Read them out loud to yourself before you go to bed. This won’t eliminate all negative thoughts, but if you can push for more positive thinking, it will help keep you in a more positive light and build your mental energy.
We are stronger than we think.
I see people working out and just going through the motions. They use a bunch of light weight dumbbells that are way below their strength levels and then wonder why they are not progressing as they should. Most of them could probably lift almost three times the amount of weight they are using.
The same thing applies to everyday life. Many people are going through the motions, but are well below their actual limits. If you want to be stronger in 2021 then you have to push your boundaries. Test your self perceived limits to see how accurate they really are. Make sure your goals are slightly more ambitious than you think are possible.
Push yourself to find your true strength, define your boundaries and B-Active For Life.
