Steede is voted cricket's MVP

the 1995 cricket season, when the Bermuda Cricket Board of Control held its prize presentation last night at Western Stars Sports Club.

The Bermuda captain, who was also MVP in Cup Match, helped lead Western Stars to the league title in his first season with the club, scoring 1409 runs in all competition with four centuries, including 720 in the league at an average of 72 from 10 league innings. Steede capped off his best ever season by taking the most (19) catches.

On accepting the award, Steede paid tribute to his teammates who combined for the team's success. "It wasn't just me this year, it was everyone, especially captain Arnold Manders,'' Steede stated.

"I had fun playing with all the guys and I appreciate the support I had all year. So this is not just for me but for everyone.'' St. George's spinner David Adams took the most wickets (41) while teammate Clevie Wade had the best bowling average for the season. The highest score in league or knockout was Ritchie Foggo's 179 for Warwick, though Gladwin Edness' record 206 in a Western Counties match was also acknowledged.

Warwick had another proud achievement when youngster Quinton Sherlock Jr. was named most promising young player.

Dexter Basden was deemed the most cooperative captain by the Bermuda Cricket Umpires Association, while Roger Blades of Police had the best bowling in a league match (7-14 against Somerset). Anthony Manders of Western Stars had the top wicketkeeper.

Also receiving awards were the century makers in the league as well as the bowlers taking seven wickets in an innings in league.

Wayne Furbert, Minister of Transport and Aviation, was the guest speaker while also present was Nelson Bascome, Shadow Minister of Youth Development, Sport and Recreation.
