Wolves climb up to third
Wolves climbed back up to third in the standings last night when second half goals from Nakia Smith and Khari Sharrieff sealed the points at Devonshire Rec.
And the Trojans, fourth before last weekend's loss to Devonshire Colts, could slip into the bottom three in the standings by tomorrow evening.
This match had little excitement in the first half, with the best effort for either team coming in injury time when Sharrieff raced across the box and struck a left footed shot against the near post with Keenan Tucker in the Somerset goal beaten.
Wolves, who went down 3-2 to the Trojans in their first meeting last October, took a big step towards avenging that defeat when they broke the deadlock in the 50th minute.
Sharrieff hit a freekick to the near post which Tucker allowed to slip out of his clutches. Nathan Webb pounced quickly and turned and crossed to the back post where Nakia Smith tucked the ball home from close range.
Webb had a good chance himself to double the lead five minutes later when a ball into the box by Mark Ray bounced perfectly for him but he blasted his low shot wide of the far post.
Wolves were enjoying a good period as the Trojans were forced to replace Nasir Wade after he took a blow to the face.
Only a brilliant save by Cymande Davis in the Wolves goal denied Somerset an equaliser when Andre Bean's long range shot was tipped against the bar by the 'keeper.
It wasn't to be the Trojans' night as two minutes later in the 65th minute Wolves cushioned their lead with another well taken goal. Defender Torry Davis crossed into the middle where Sharrieff tucked a low shot past Tucker from 15 yards.
Nakia Smith wasted a good chance to make it 3-0 when he broke free of the Somerset defence, but after getting into the box he put his shot wide with just Tucker to beat.
Somerset were denied by the woodwork again in the 80th minute when substitute Rodre Wilson fed the other sub, Aaron Williams, a perfect pass inside the box where the youngster unleashed a first time shot that smashed against the near post.
At the other end Sharrieff made a short pass to Nakia Smith whose mishit effort was tipped over the bar as another chance was missed.
