to give her back-to-back triumphs in Island tournaments.

Osborne, who was last month part of Bermuda's Federation Cup team competing in Mexico, beat Lavern Stowe in three sets of watchful tennis to add the Pomander Gate title to the Heineken Open she clinched against Gill Butterfield a fortnight ago.

All-round sportswoman Osborne, also named in the ladies hockey squad for August's CAC Games in Venezuela, took the first set 6-1 after thunderstorms caused a two-hour break following the opening game.

Stowe fought back to take the second 6-4 and at 2-2 in the third the match could have gone either way. However, it was Osborne who gradually got the better of the long rallies, enabling her to win the next four games and with them the title.

Stowe, who started the day with a chance of taking three titles, saw that dream slip away further as Wendy Gelhay and Ann Jones teamed up to beat her and Barbara Lambert in straight sets in the ladies doubles. And she must have thought she would end up empty handed as Gelhay and Colie Place took the first set of the mixed doubles 6-0.

But she and partner Eldon Daniels retained their composure to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-3 and ensure she had at least one trophy to put on the sideboard.

ONE OUT OF THREE -- Lavern Stowe took Liz Osborne to three sets in the ladies singles final in the Colonial Open at Pomander Gate. In an exhausting day, she was a runner-up in the ladies doubles but clinched the mixed doubles title with Eldon Daniels.
