The art of summer
seas. Art is frequently seen in nature and no one is more aware of this than Bruce Stuart, Acting Curator for the Bermuda Society of Arts.
Mr. Stuart has been painting for 18 years. He describes his forte as, "Realism in Bermuda landscapes.'' Mr. Stuart wants to "encourage artists to ascertain more about themselves, look, learn, listen. I want artists everywhere to find comfortable, happy planes of expression and go with it.'' This includes children.
Children seem to see everything with enthusiasm and summer is a great time to introduce your child to art by simply sitting outdoors and pencil drawing a few things that catch your child's eyes. An art teacher once said: "You only learn to sketch by sketching -- it's similar to learning printing or hand writing. It must be practised and practised.'' Have you ever taken your child to City Hall to observe the art? This may be a starting point for you and your child. Look at all the colours and textures.
