Police suspend search for missing man

Police are now searching for Dereck Spenser, missing since yesterday afternoon.

A search for a missing 49-year-old man has been suspended until tomorrow, police said this afternoon.Police and the Regiment were searching today for Dereck Spenser who was last seen as he left his job in Dockyard on his motorcycle around 4.30pm yesterdayAccording to police, Mr Spenser lives on a houseboat in Ely's Harbour and parks his motorcycle adjacent to Robinson's Marina in Somerset.Said a spokesman: "Mr Spenser's motorcycle is parked in its regular position, but the punt that he normally uses to access his houseboat in the harbour is missing and he is not on his houseboat."Routine enquiries to locate Mr Spenser have so far been unsuccessful. Anyone with any information as to Mr Spenser's whereabouts or his movements since Wednesday afternoon, is urged to contact the police immediately on 295-0011."Members of the Bermuda Police Service Marine Unit and the Bermuda Regiment Boat Troop were searching the Ely's Harbour area.Bermuda Maritime Operations has also issued a marine broadcast for any vessels in the area to assist in the effort to locate Mr Spenser.This afternnoon a Police spokesman said: "At 4.15pm on Thursday, November 22, the marine search for Dereck Spenser was suspended by dive teams in Ely’s Harbour due to low visibility. The marine search is scheduled to resume at 9am Friday, November 23."Mr Spenser is described as brown skinned, of slim to medium build with close cut hair (grey in the front) and a grey moustache.
