Former Bermuda national team skipper Charlie Marshall struck the first century of the cricket season yesterday when his fine knock led his new team Social Club to a 71 run win over Police at Police field.
After a surprise transfer from St. George's to Social Club this season in a bid to revive the club's cricket programme, skipper Marshall led by example when he hammered an undefeated 104 after losing the toss and being sent in to bat.
Dropped in the mid-20s, Marshall struck five sixes and nine fours to blast his team out of trouble after they were floundering at 41 for the loss of six wickets.
Marshall and Terry Thomas put on 109 for the seventh wicket, the latter scoring 46.
Among the early failures for Social was another newcomer, opener Glenn Blakeney, who scored just four.
Ossie Hinds led the Police bowling attack with four for 18 off 8.2 overs while Anderson Cumberbatch had two for 27 off four overs and Rohaan Henry two for 39 off nine overs.
David Bagwan led Police with 29 while Henry scored 17 and opener Cumberbatch 16.
