Parish off the mark

A fiercely headed goal by centre-back Ryan Evans earned Parish a late equaliser and their first point of the season since being promoted to the First Division.

For much of this clash at White Hill Field, heavily favoured Colts held the upper hand. But their woeful finishing kept Parish in the game and Evans ultimately made them pay.

The equaliser came after 82 minutes when the tall defender leaped above the defence to head home a free kick taken by full back Chris Caisey. And it was well deserved as Parish had pinned down their opponents for a lengthy spell in the second half.

The result could be just the tonic coach Ricky Hill needs to boost a team whose morale has been low after such a disaastrous start to the season.

Colts had appeared solid in defence and it was a credit to Parish how they created openings despite the fine work of Jermel Simmons, McKonnen Hollis and Jermel Belboda.

However, Colts will kick themselves for not putting the game out of reach in a first half they dominated.

All they had to show for their efforts was a lone goal by midfielder Romond Douglas after 34 minutes -- the diminutive player slamming the ball home from 14 yards after Keishon Smith and Aljame Zuill had combined to provide the cross.

Colts had so many other chances put high or wide with both Zuill and Smith among the culprits.

Parish had just one chance -- a sorry miss by Clevon Hill after 28 minutes when he headed a Irving Burgess cross wide from 10 yards, though he was off balance while making his attempt.

With Colts playing with less intensity in the second half, Parish were able to take the upper hand and it came as no surprise when they were rewarded for their hard work.
