Hypnotic evening promises to provide plenty of laughs
Politicians and other public figures are invited to come out and bare their souls during a fun evening for a good cause this weekend.
Internationally acclaimed hypnotist Mike Mandel is putting on a hypnotic evening at City Hall on Saturday (8 p.m.) with proceeds going towards the TB Cancer and Health's new Cancer Research Centre presently under construction on Point Finger Road.
Ticket sales are going extremely well with, as of last Friday, just 50 tickets remaining for the show which promises to "produce ludicrous and hilarious scenarios, bellyaching laughter and entertainment for the whole family".
Myra Brayham, vice president of TB Cancer and Health and a member of the Capital Campaign Committee for the Cancer Resource Centre, promises an enjoyable evening.
"We haven't gone to the politicians, but we have had private people come forward," explained Ms Brayham.
"I would love to throw it out to them, I think it will be really good. This is a fun event and we always see them in such a serious role. It would be nice to see them supporting the community in a fun way.
"If we got a public figure it would be absolutely fabulous. I even thought of somebody like El James who is in politics but is also known for his cricket, somebody who a lot of people know who has warmth and a sense of humour. "
Tanya Kowalski of AF Smith's has put the challenge out to (UBP MP) Tim Smith, but he is off the Island. Also participating are Richard Lau from the hospital and Sarah Burrows of Medtech.
"Richard Lau, to date, is close to $400 (in pledges) from people egging him on to go on stage."
The event is sponsored by Paradigm and there is a cash bar which opens at 6.30 p.m. Bacardi International and John Barritt and Son are the beverage sponsors.
Enquiries for tickets, which are being sold for $30, can be made by calling 297-gala (4252).
