The foundations of two buildings adjacent to the A.S. Cooper's demolition site needed emergency underpinning work this week.
Underpinning is a method of supporting a building's foundation by using reinforced concrete.
"Basically, once we demolished the building it revealed some soft pocket materials of sand under the adjacent buildings," project manager Ian Goodman said. "It was a precautionary measure to avoid the potential for the soft material giving way."
