They have taken legal action to get the boat removed and even bought newpaper space for a tough warning notice.

The no-nonsense action by the First Church of God, on the North Shore in Pembroke, now seems to have paid off. The boat was due to be removed from a garage near the church this morning.

But court argument over the 10-year-old Elite motorboat goes on. In the newspaper notice, church administrator Mr. Robert Sutton said the boat was left in a building behind the church annexe by auto mechanic Mr. Robert Sousa.

Mr. Sousa ran R&S Garage from the building, but now runs the Auto Service Centre in Laffan Street, Hamilton.

It is understood he sold the boat to physician Dr. Wilbert Warner, who then asked for his money back after it broke down.

Dr. Warner took Mr. Sousa to Supreme Court, and after a hearing in June, Puisne Judge the Hon. Mrs. Justice Wade is expected to decide who owns the craft.

Meanwhile, unable to find someone to admit to owning the boat, the church made a newspaper announcement to Mr. Sousa and Dr. Warner threatening to "dispose of it by sale or otherwise'' and put any proceeds towards its costs.

It is believed Mr. Sousa and Mr. Warner have agreed to get the boat taken away today.

Mr. Stuart Old, shop manager at Bermuda Auto Body Services, the building's new tenant, said: "It wasn't really causing us a problem, but we'd rather have it gone in case there was damage in some way.''
