Unlock your child?s mathematical potential

A talk for parents, ?Babies Overboard! Uncovering the Mathematics Genius in your Child? will take place tonight at Dellwood Middle School.

This 60-minute talk is part of the Ministry of Education and Development?s continuing focus on mathematics literacy.

Focusing on parents of students ages four to 18, the purpose of the talk ? which repeats on May 16 at Sandys Secondary School and on May 30 at Clearwater Middle School ? will be to share vital information about new directions and changes in school mathematics curriculum and standards.

The talks will also address parents? questions and concerns about student performance in school mathematics and provide parents with research and innovative ways to foster the mathematical ability of their children. Many of today?s parents did not learn mathematics in the way that modern standards emphasise, yet often find themselves wanting to provide the support needed for success, but not having access to resources or knowing how.

The talks will be presented by Bermudian, Dr. Lou Matthews, a mathematics education professor at the University of South Carolina.
