Managing director of Startime and producer of the event Eugene Dean explained that this year would be a little different.

"This year, the event is all the more significant, as it will mark the start of Bermuda's 400th Anniversary in the Island's first city not far from the spot where the Sea Venture hit our shores," he said.

"Since 1991, St. George's has been the place to be on December 31, drawing thousand of residents and visitors to what has become the Island's premier family orientated New Year's Eve celebration."

After 17 successful years of New Year's Eve Celebrations, expectations have risen and the Corporation of St. George's has realised that the event requires a professional events planner.

"With this in mind Startime has been awarded a four-year contract and tasked with the responsibility of producing annual events comparable to New Year's Eve Celebrations around the world," said Mr. Dean.

"This year the event will feature top class live entertainment, outdoor movies Dr. Seuss' "Horton Hears a Who," Places Gombeys, food vendors will be set-up on Ordinance Island, kiddie land, free party favours, the 'Onion Drop' and spectacular fire work display after the onion drops.

"Our theme is "Unity in the Community" and we pray that family and friends will attend this spectacular New Year's Eve celebration, one of the Island's signature events, which provides our community with an extremely positive, entertaining and engaging family experience for everyone to enjoy."

The event is free to the public. Thanks to support from The Corporation of St. George's and the business community, Startime has successfully raised 60 percent of the event budget and continues to solicit sponsorship.

"There is no specific theme, but the idea of a financial bailout was adopted from the US Government's recent industry bailouts.

"We figured that good people deserved to go to a party on New Year's Eve that doesn't cost them an arm and a leg!"

"Jugglin' J is headlining, with able support from D Nice, DJ Aztec, and Barmuvinjam's own resident Mixmaster, De General," said Mr. Steede.
