firearms offence will be appealing his sentence.

His lawyer, Mr. Mark Pettingill, this week confirmed the appeal would go ahead within the next few days.

German national, Peter Berned Focke was given a jail sentence last week by Senior Magistrate, the Wor. William Francis, for possession of a magnum bullet.

He has requested an expedited hearing on the grounds that the sentence was excessive, Mr. Pettingill said.

Mr. Pettingill, who also represented Focke at his sentencing, argued earlier precedents where firearms offenders were fined but not jailed should be followed.

"The law and the precedents have not changed,'' he said before sentence was passed in Magistrates' Court. "This is not an appropriate case to incarcerate him.'' But Mr. Francis said in light of the recent amnesty on firearms and strong anti-gun feeling within the community, past firearm precedents are now "history''.
