years in her country without being charged or tried, will share her experience with Bermuda when she visits next week.

During her 10-day visit beginning tomorrow, Ms Kumsa will speak at a public meeting at Wesley Methodist Church in Hamilton on Wednesday and at the Somers Lioness Club dinner at Belmont Hotel on Thursday.

Both meetings will begin at 7.30 p.m.

Ms Kumsa worked as news and women's column editor for a newspaper in Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa, and as a family programme producer for a radio station from 1975-1980 when she was arrested.

She will also share her prisoner-of-conscience experiences on VSB's human rights radio programme, beginning at 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

QUEEN'S THANKS FOR LILIES VIP Queen's thanks for lilies The Queen has thanked the Government and people of Bermuda for sending Easter Lilies, an annual gift.

The Queen expressed her appreciation in a letter written by her assistant private secretary on April 24 and recently received by Governor Sir Desmond Langley.

"They (the Easter Lilies) are in a place of honour here at the castle and have brought much pleasure to the Queen and her family over the Easter break,'' assistant private secretary Robin Janvrin wrote.

Copies of the letter were sent by Sir Desmond to Agriculture & Fisheries director Mr. John Barnes, British Airways local manager Mr. Philip Troake, Mr.

Malcom Hollis who packed the lilies and the farmer who grew the lilies, Mr.

Joseph Pacheco, of Locust Hall.

NEW, HIGH QUALITY DRIVERS' LICENCES TRA New, high quality drivers' licences The Transport Control Department has begun issuing new drivers' licences which are "a lot easier to read''.

"Over the years the department has had a number of complaints about the printed information on drivers' licences not being able to be read,'' TCD director Mr. Donald Dane said. "We discovered that this was caused by the old dot matrix printer.

"We have now installed a new system which uses a high-quality laser printer and a camera that takes four exposures at a time instead of two.

"We are sure that this will remedy the problem.'' The new licences, which are smaller, are issued to new licence holders and renewals.

GRAND PRIX AT NAVAL ANNEX MIL Grand prix at Naval Annex The fourth annual Armed Forces Day Grand Prix, sponsored by the US Navy and the Bermuda Karting Club, takes place tomorrow afternoon at the US Naval Annex in Southampton.

The Bermuda Flying Club will be holding a mini air show, and Bermuda Power Boat Association boats will be on display. Concession stands will offer food and beverages.

The gates of the Annex will be open from noon-5 p.m.. "Fun Kart'' rides will be offered from noon-3 p.m., the flying display runs from noon-1 p.m. The boat display lasts from 1-5 p.m. and individual karting trophy races will take place from 2-4:30 p.m.
