Man hospitalised after bizarre accident
In a bizarre traffic accident, a man was seriously injured when a truck rolled into him while he was telling a family member goodbye on Friday morning in Hamilton.
The accident involving a white Isuzu truck and a black Honda Fit happened at 9.55 a.m. on Dundonald Street near the junction with King Street.
Police spokesman Dwayne Caines gave a brief Press conference at the scene of the accident. He said details were still sketchy but it appeared that the brakes of a white Isuzu truck, parked in a steeply graded loading bay of Bermuda Import & Export Company, had not been applied properly.
As a result, the truck rolled down the slope and struck a man who was leaning into the passenger side window of a black car, telling the driver goodbye. The car was parked across the front end of the loading bay. The man was knocked down and badly hurt.
?I only want to say, at this junction, that it was serious,? said Mr. Caines. ?The man has been taken by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he is currently being treated for leg and neck injuries.?
Mr. Caines later said: ?Imagine if this had been a kid. This was just near a nursery.?
The accident was also attended by the Bermuda Fire Service. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
