Kings and Smith nab big point
Jonte Smith and his Kemi Kings team-mates came from behind to earn a crucial point in a 1-1 draw away to fellow Kakkonen North League title contenders Kajaani yesterday.
The home side went ahead in the nineteenth minute, the Kings managed to grab a share of the spoils after forward Billy Ions equalised in the 58th minute.
The result enabled Kings to maintain their three-point cushion over second-placed Kajaani atop of the Kakkonen League heading into Thursday’s match away to YPA, who are third, six points adrift.
Smith, 20, initially joined the Kings in the spring on loan from Crawley Town, of Sky Bet League One, before agreeing to the terms of a deal that will keep the player in Finland until the end of the present campaign with two option years in his contract.
n Nahki Wells, the Bermuda striker, netted his second goal of the pre-season in Huddersfield Town’s 3-1 defeat away to Oldham Athletic, the League One club, on Saturday.
Wells, who joined Town in the Championship during the January transfer window for a record £1.3?million, gave his team a lifeline after burying a left-footed shot in the 69th minute.
But the joy was short-lived as Oldham restored their two-goal cushion four minutes later when Clarke Harris, the striker, rifled in a shot from 25 yards out. Harris’ wonder strike made amends for an earlier penalty miss.
James Dayton and Liam Kelly accounted for Oldham’s remaining goals.
Wells and his team-mates are due to play Newcastle United, of the Barclays Premier League, tomorrow in their final pre-season friendly before opening the Championship season with a match at home to Bournemouth.
