Thefts earn man Supreme Court date
for two theft charges.
Roger Winston Darrell, 39, of Channel View Lane pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to stealing a Reebok jacket from Sports R Us and a stereo from Gorham's Limited.
Police prosecutor, Sgt. Phil Taylor, said the first offence took place around 11.30 a.m. on January 31 when Darrell was seen acting suspicious by staff who later reviewed the store's security surveillance tapes, which showed Darrell putting the jacket in his crash helmet and leaving the store.
Sgt. Taylor added that also around 11.30 a.m. on March 4, Gorham's staff watched Darrell conceal a "personal stereo'' inside his coat pocket. Darrell was approached in the parking lot and arrested by plain-clothed Police officers who happened to be in the area.
He was taken to Hamilton Police Station where he admitted both offences.
Senior Magistrate Will Francis yesterday decided to send Darrell to the Supreme Court for sentencing along with other charges he is facing.

Wendy Lightbourne, 25, of Alexandra Road, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court to the offences which involved a cheque worth $286 which she admitted stealing from her brother, Winston.
Police prosecutor Sgt. Phil Taylor said Lightbourne stole the cheque from her brother's bedroom, signed it, and used it to pay for five items of luggage she had put on lay-away at The Harbour Master store in January.
When she used the cheque to pay for the luggage, staff at The Harbour Master became suspicious and called her brother, who told them the cheque had been stolen the day before.
