Father Roberts, who before his ordination served as an intelligence officer in the Royal Navy, worked as a chief steward on British Airways and as a language interpreter on the Queen Elizabeth , resolved that he would become a millionaire by the time he was 25 years old.
He achieved his ambition at 24, leading a jet-set life in the capitals of the world, and even owned his own airplane.
Then, at the age of 30, just three weeks before he was due to be married, he suddenly decided to become a priest.
His autobiography, "Playboy to Priest'', published in 1970, became a best-seller and he is the author of several other books. He is a regular guest on many religious and secular TV shows, including the Merv Griffin Show, Oprah Winfrey, 20/20 and with Regis Philbin.
British-born Father Roberts became an American citizen and spends most of his time as a lecturer and retreat leader in the US and abroad.
This year, he was the recipient of the 34th Annual Franciscan International Award for his work as a Catholic priest and evangelist.
Next Tuesday 11 at 8 p.m., Father Roberts will celebrate Mass at St. Theresa's Cathedral, followed by a social in the church hall.
