Association's Bacardi Nationals.
Last weekend provided splendid competition with 13 boats on the Great Sound.
Sailors were forced to contend with shifting easterly breezes at 12 to 15 knots combined with windward and leeward courses and by day's end there were some exciting results.
Tim Patton won the first race when he gained the early lead on the first leg, but close behind was Allan Williams. After that it was Scott Simmons, Jack Outerbridge and Bill McNiven.
The course was moved for the start of the second race and Stevie Dickinson led at the first mark and continued to lead until the final leg when Patton pulled out all the stops for his second triumph of the day. Dickinson finished second.
The rest of the fleet continued to battle it out with several positions changing before the finish. Outerbridge grabbed third spot followed by McNiven, Williams, Paula Lewin -- making her debut in an Etchells 22 -- Martin Purser, Ron Stan, Simmons, Steve Hannon and Graham Tremlet.
