Trendy Kafu Hair and Gallery will once more be the scene of an exciting new art show, which opens tomorrow.

Entitled 'One Love,' it will combine the talents of three artists: Manuel Palacio, Glen Wilks, and Alicia Tyson.

Mr. Palacio, whose paints in thick oils on canvas, will exhibit six abstract paintings from a series he is working on entitled 'Flamenco Sketches'. They are inspired by the music of the 1959 Miles Davis album, now on CD, 'Kind of Blue'.

"I am not a big jazz fan, but he is an artist who is willing to constantly take risks and I admire that," he says. "The paintings are not only inspired by his music but also are in reference to how we feel about certain things."

With their vibrant colours - inspired by Bermuda's colours - and style, the new canvases represent another new avenue in Mr. Palacio's journey of self-exploration.

"As an artist I think it is important to always change myself, and that is what I try to do when I sit down to paint. I want to stimulate myself," he says. "The art scene in Bermuda is one that is saturated with the same thing.

"When I go to shows it bothers me when people expect the same thing. I think it is up to artists to always try to come up with something more. I am not afraid to fail. I know I have a gift to be an artist, so I want to do whatever I feel like doing."

Mr. Wilks, who is also known for the dramatic vibrancy of his work, is another believer in the freedom of personal expression. Some of the paintings in this show are from his 'Blue Back' series, which he says represent "a lot of different things - man's struggle, overcoming obstacles, growth and connection". Others are from his ontology series.

Mr. Wilks, who is also a professional hairdresser and co-owner of Kafu, paints in acrylic on canvas.

Canadian artist and Toronto resident Alicia Tyson chooses wax relef with oil her medium. For the past 15 years she has been working on three life-series of paintings: 'Grow,' which she describes as her "on-going exploration and life growth through experiencing, appreciating and trusting the divine intelligence of Nature"; 'Currents,' "the exploration and perception of the divine connection between Nature and mankind", and 'Coloured Air,' the artist's "physical and spiritual experience beyond the visual pleasure in Nature.

Of finding oneself and one's place". Her work is described as romantic, feminine and sensual, and she will exhibit paintings from the abovenamed series.

Tomorrow's opening reception, which is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., will also include DJ Beatnik and poets Veejay Steede and friends. A special area is being set aside with art materials and a child minder for the convenience of parents accompanied by children. For further information (295-5238.
