The Regiment Band plan to blow people away with their musical talents tonight in advance of the Cup Match festivities.They will be joining forces with the Bermuda Islands Pipe Band and lady dancers, as well as the Band and Corps of Drums of the Regiment, for the midsummer Beating Retreat at the Flag Pole on Front Street.Kicking off at 6pm, they will play several popular songs from movies, including a little Motown, Pirates of the Caribbean and music from the box office smash Titanic.They will also be playing tunes like ‘In the Stone’ by the Elements Earth, Wind, and Fire, who performed at the Bermuda Music Festival a few years ago.Lieutenant Colonel Brian Gonsalves said: “The Beating of the Retreats and other musical events are just some of the ways that the Bermuda Regiment supports the Bermudian Community.“Furthermore all members of the Regimental Band are serving soldiers, and almost all of them are volunteers. During emergencies and embodiments all members of the band take on further operational roles supporting the Regiment in assisting the needs of the Island.“They are service people that demonstrate professional qualities in their musical and soldiering commitments to the Regiment. We are fortunate to have individuals like these who have chosen to serve the public.”Honorary Colonel of the Bermuda Regiment, Eugene Raynor, will be the special guest for the night. The Bermuda Islands Pipe Band, which is known to add a bit of Scottish flair to their performance, will mix a little bit of calypso into their songs.Their dancers will perform a Scottish Lilt and the Highland Fling before marching off to a specially-written tune called ‘Pink Sands of Bermuda’.The Bermuda Regiment is currently looking for volunteers and are offering training in a trades such as medical, signals, Regimental Police, rifleman, motor transport and music.
