Several local youth performing arts groups have received $1,000 donations at CableVision’s annual ‘Salute to Service’ banquet.A total of 17 organisations and groups were honoured at the banquet, including the Bermuda Institute Steel Band, the CedarBridge Academy Orchestra, Precious Melodies, Troika Dance Group, Graffiti Dance Crew and the Bermuda High School for Girls Orchestra. The event, themed ‘A Celebration of our Children’, was intended to highlight the positive role played by young people in the Island’s community, and paying homage to the adults that raise them to do it.Each of the 17 youth groups performed for the audience, which included Premier Paula Cox and Governor Sir Richard Gozney.CableVision General Manager Terry Roberson said: “All too often, young people are perceived as a threat to the status quo rather than the positive, progressive force they can be.“With this showcase of some of the best emerging talent Bermuda has to offer, we hope to have shattered that misconception by giving our children a platform on which to delight and inspire.”
