Strong contenders
When the founders of First Bermuda Group formed the company in 1991, they had a vision to develop it into a reputable financial organisation. While co-founder Maxwell Roberts did not live to see the company thrive into what it is today, Michael Schoter and Jeff Conyers have kept their colleague and friend’s legacy alive.
“When the company was formed, the aim was to look after the investment needs of Bermuda,” Mr. Conyers, who is the CEO of First Bermuda Group, told The Royal Gazette.<$>
“Because at the time the banks dealt with investments, it was hard because they had an established market.”
But instead of succumbing to the competition, the company steadily thrived which afforded them the opportunity to purchase Bermuda, Savings and Loan in 1995. This move enabled them to become an all-around financial planning business.
“We then hired staff (Betty Brown and Rebecca Brookes) and they are still here to this day,” Mr. Conyers continued. “We have great staff. We have developed a niche in both sides of the business.”
The CEO said his company ensures that it takes care of its clients.
“We focus on personal service. We are not perceived to be a big player but that gives us a position to deliver quality services. The staff at First Bermuda Group put their clients first and deliver a quality of service that we pride ourselves on.”
Mr. Conyers spoke of the future of his company.
“We are building our capital base so that we can provide a better range of products. We especially want to build our international investment clients.”
He concluded: “We have been incredibly fortunate for how the building worked out. We had to do a lot of things to make it work. We have a great group of tenants and I am thrilled with the whole thing.”
The Maxwell Roberts Building will officially be opened by the Premier on December 5 at 5.30 p.m.
