Woman injured by taxi on pedestrian crossing

A 59-year-old woman was hit by a taxi while on a pedestrian crossing this week.

The Warwick resident was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital (KEMH) and treated for bruises.

The incident happened around 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the junction of Front and Parliament streets.

"The Warwick woman sustained bruising and pain to her body," a Police spokesperson said. "She was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment and later released. The driver, a 52-year-old St. George's man, was not injured and the taxi was not damaged."

He continued: "The Bermuda Police Service would like to commend the actions of two men who were passing by at the time and assisted the victim."

Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact PC Yvette Henry on 295-0011.

Burglaries in Rosemont Avenue

Burglars targeted two homes on Rosemont Avenue, Pembroke, this week.

A 45-year-old St. George's man has since been arrested.

According to Police, a thief made off with a quantity of loose change from an unoccupied apartment on Tuesday.

In a separate incident on that same day, a burglar attempted to enter a home while it was unoccupied. It appears nothing was taken.

Inquiries into both incidents are underway.

Homes broken into

Thieves made off with jewellery and a flat screen TV from two west end homes.

According to Police the incidents took place on Tuesday at a Beaming Hill, Southampton residence and a home on Sun Valley Road, in Warwick. Both houses were unoccupied at the time.

A 48-inch Panasonic flat screen TV was stolen from the Southampton residence. Jewellery was taken from the home in Warwick.

Special waste drop-off days

The Ministry of Works and Engineering will be holding a special waste drop-off day on Friday and Saturday at the Tynes Bay incinerator on Palmetto Road, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Residents may drop off compact fluorescent light bulbs, old pesticides, hobby chemicals, outdated medicines or anything with a hazardous or warning label to the facility on these days.
