K. Bruce Connell , 44, has been named president and chief operating officer of the newly formed XL Global Reinsurance Co. Ltd.

XL Global Re is the result of the amalgamation of the reinsurance operations of Bermuda-based EXEL Ltd. subsidiary, XL Re, and their recently acquired GCR Holdings Ltd. and its subsidiary Global Capital Reinsurance Co. Ltd.

The single reinsurance entity is expected to have capital and surplus of $500 million.

Mr. Connell has been executive vice president and chief underwriting officer of XL Re since 1995, and prior to that was senior vice president at XL Insurance Co., Ltd. for five years.

Former GCR president, Larry Doyle, 54, has been appointed executive vice president of EXEL Ltd. and will be responsible for certain strategic initiatives.

Mr. Connell said, "XL Global Re combines the individual capabilities of the two former companies into a single entity offering clients easier access to the entire range of our products.'' XL Global Re offers property, marine, non-marine and specialty reinsurance as well as financial lines coverage for insurance companies and corporations worldwide. Both traditional and non-traditional solutions are offered, including multi-line and multi-year programmes.

*** LaSalle Re Ltd. has appointed Rob Lee Womack Jr. senior vice president in its underwriting division.

Mr. Womack has been with the company since its formation in October 1993, and has had 14 years experience in insurance and reinsurance in the US and the UK.

Executive vice president and chief underwriter, Guy D. Hengesbaugh, said, "This promotion reflects Rob Lee's tremendous contribution and dedication to LaSalle since its incorporation four years ago. We expect this management and reporting responsibilities to increase as LaSalle enters new areas of growth and business development.'' BUSINESS BUC
