Premier’s oxymoron
November 2, 2011Dear Sir,I truly am dejected by the article in today’s paper “Premier stands by her record as Finance Minister”. How can Premier Cox honestly defend her role as finance minister during the Dr Brown administration? This is coming from the same woman who said she was but a mere cog in the wheel. So which is she? Quite the oxymoron if you ask me.She goes on to say: “We are their best opportunity for seeing their dreams realised. The PLP has always been consistently a party that believes in social and economic justice and also for providing meaningful opportunities for Bermudians. And our track record speaks to that.”Does she have a different track record book than the rest of us do? Have her rose coloured glasses gotten foggy? I’m sorry Premier, but I wholeheartedly disagree with you. In 1998, the PLP gave people dreams, but for many on the Island the dreams have become a harsh nightmare. Premier Cox also says: “You look at the poetry, not just the prose, of what the PLP has done to safeguard and assist those who have been faring not so well.” Madam please stop trying to romanticise the PLP reign. Let’s be realistic. Crime is at a disgusting level. We have young promising men being stabbed in daylight hours and you wish to talk about poetry and prose? The only thing I see being written is a Greek tragedy for the island of Bermuda. Guess what Bermudians, tragedies never end happy.Put a stop to this ill equipped government. Far too many people get into politics for matters concerning themselves, not Bermuda. You get people in power that are mere smooth talkers, but ask them something about actual politics, ie proportional representation for voting or the Westminster system and they look at you cross-eyed. Stop putting people in position of power because they talk a good game. The games are over.In my eyes, Parliamentarians are meant to be customer care representatives. Well, PLP, your customers are not happy. Let’s have a change of politics as usual across the entire House of Assembly.ROBERT DAVIES JRDevonshire
