Bermudian dancers to share the stage with ABT stalwarts

Local talent: Krystal Smith (pictured with fellow DanceBermuda 2010 participant Alex Kramer) is one of 20 Bermudian dancers who will perform during the National Dance Foundation's annual fund-raising gala at the Southampton Fairmont Resort on February 19. Miss Smith will dance in 'Between the Light and Me', a work created by Emmy award-winning Stacey Tookey.

Two principal dancers with the American Ballet Theatre (ABT) will headline the National Dance Foundation of Bermuda's upcoming gala, ‘An Evening with Don Kramer'.Misty Copeland and Sascha Radetsky will perform at the February 19 event, which will also include 20 Bermuda dancers.Miss Copeland made history as the first African-American soloist at ABT, and was specifically chosen by the rock star Prince to appear in his ‘Crimson and Clover' video.She also performed with him during his 2010 global tour.Mr Radetsky's impressive dance career includes performances as an actor on stage and screen, among them a role in the dance film, ‘Centre Stage'.At the gala, Miss Copeland will dance the Gulnare third act variation from ‘Le Corsaire'. Together with Mr Radetsky she will also perform an excerpt from American dancer and choreographer Twyla Tharp's Broadway triumph, ‘Sinatra Suite'.Senior Bermudian dancers sharing the Gala stage with Miss Copeland and Mr Radetsky will be Dominique Anderson, Sierra-Renae De Silva, Fredrika Hill, Alexis Richens and Krystal Smith. They will perform ‘Between the Light and Me', a work choreographed by Emmy Award-winning choreographer and ‘So You Think You Can Dance' judge Stacey Tookey.Bermuda dancers, aged 12 to 15, will perform ‘Aurora's Friends' from act one of ‘The Sleeping Beauty', which was first presented during DanceBermuda's 2010 workshop production. A video will provide an overview of Bermudian dancers James Waddell, Anna Clifford, Jelani Veney, Rikkai Scott and Courtney Lopes, who are studying overseas on scholarships.The annual gala, the NDFB's major fundraiser, will be held at the Fairmont Southampton.Tickets, $275, are currently available.
