A victim twice over
February 11, 2014
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to defend myself regarding the atrocious way I have been portrayed recently by The Royal Gazette. I was featured in an article by Ceola Wilson on Monday of this week regarding some jewellery that was stolen from me. In that article it was stated I and my husband were both on vacation during the theft and left our sick child in the care of a house sitter.
The article misconstrued the facts and portrayed us as neglectful parents that would leave our child with a house sitter we did not trust. The fact of the matter is we don’t have a child.
After complaining to Ms Wilson early Monday morning, and getting no reply, I contacted the paper directly, at which point the online version of the paper was changed. I was also told there would be prominent correction in the paper on Wednesday. Needless to say, today, and the very bottom of Page 4, tucked in under all the contact information for The Royal Gazette employees, was a small paragraph stating we have no children and the sick child was that of the house sitters.
I had to go through the paper twice to find it, even though I was looking for it, and I still cannot find it online, so I hardly consider it prominent. Let me make it perfectly clear, I do not have any children, and would never consider leaving an unwell child of mine in the care of someone else while I went on vacation. What kind of monster would that make me?
I care for sick people for a living, for goodness sake. I have lost patients due to your error, and have received hateful comments online and from people I have seen that do not know me well enough to know I do not have children.
Quite frankly I feel more violated by you, The Royal Gazette, than I do by the person who stole my jewellery. He stole my property, but you stole my reputation and your efforts to repair it have been pitiful. I was the victim twice over here. I can only hope that you print this letter in an effort to apologise for how much harm you have done to me.
